Shaping Learning with Technology
An Afternoon with Apple for MOE

For over 30 years, Apple has partnered with educators to provide students with the necessary advanced tools to discover their own special genius and to prepare them to compete in today’s global, digital economy. With commitment and engaging instruction, these partnerships have resulted in the creation of many successful models of 21st century learning environments.

This visit will provide educators with an understanding of the role of technology in the 21st century classroom and Apple’s innovation. Highlights on the latest trends in educational technology and ACOT2, a recently-introduced Apple Challenge Based Learning will be covered.

Journey Through Singapore’s Built Environment
Building and Construction Authority (BCA)

Participants will enjoy multi-sensory interactive exhibits showcasing the development of Singapore’s built environment from the post-war period to the future. You will also experience the relaxing yet invigorating environment of the Sensory Garden to encourage socialising and knowledge exchange.

Participants will learn about the Zero Energy Building, BCA’s flagship R&D project, and Southeast Asia’s first and most environmentally-friendly retrofitted building intended for research and education purposes. You will experience its exciting building design strategies and innovative technologies.

Finally, BCA’s Manpower Planning Department will give an overview of careers in the built environment followed by a talk by an industrial professional.

Cultivating a nation of healthy and happy people
Health Promotion Board (HPB)

Established in 2001, the vision of HPB is to build a nation of healthy and happy people. To achieve this, HPB assumes the role of the main driver for national health promotion and disease prevention programmes. Its goal is to increase the quality and years of healthy life and prevent illness, disability and premature death.

Through this Learning Journey, participants will gain a brief understanding of what HPB is doing to promote healthy lifestyle. HPB will also provide an insight of its programmes and services and also provide information on integrated health screening and the importance of mental wellness.

Can Creativity Be Taught?
LASALLE College of the Arts

At LASALLE, students are taught and exposed to a range of pedagogical methods crossing the conventional to the experimental, with a practice-based approach to learning. Through this Learning Journey, participants will be introduced to some of the approaches that LASALLE undertakes in relation to its teaching and learning of contemporary creative arts.

Participants will have the opportunity to observe classes and learn more about these various approaches such as experiential learning, creative dialogue for ‘Out-of-Class’ learning and ‘Peer-to-Peer’ learning. These are adopted to encourage engagement and creativity as well as critical thinking skills amongst students.

An overview of the Rehabilitation Protection and Residential Services Division, MCYS

In MCYS’ work with youth offenders and children in need of welfare and protection, officers regularly seek feedback on our school-going youth and children. If you have ever received a call or request for feedback from a Probation Officer or Child Protection Officer and want to know more about what MCYS do, come onboard this Learning Journey and be introduced to the work of MCYS. In this session, you will also learn about the ministry’s beliefs, philosophy and approach as well as how MCYS and schools may better support each other for greater impact and effectiveness on society and youths.

Arts Inspires
NAFA

NAFA opened its doors in 1938 with an initial intake of 14 students in Fine Art to embark on a bold artistic journey challenging convention and embracing change. After several decades of rapid expansion, NAFA is today renowned regionally for its high-quality curricula, innovative teaching, artistic creations and community outreach.

The presentation would include the overview of NAFA and how we inspire teachers and students to greater heights. Participants will also learn how a trained artist is able to contribute to Singapore's vision of becoming an international arts hub as well as contributing to the manpower needs of the creative industries.

Northlight School – Preparing Youth for Life and Living

Northlight School was established in March 2006 to better cater to students who could benefit from more customised and vocational education. It takes in students who have failed PSLE once or twice and seeks to provide an engaging career-oriented education to prepare them for lifelong learning and employability. Through this Learning Journey, participants will learn about some of the approaches that the school has found to connect and engage this group of students to help them re-discover the joy of learning.

Learning with a Difference – Republic Polytechnic

The learning journey would provide an overview of Republic Polytechnic and its strategies to develop and train their students to be life-long learners with an all-rounded education. The sharing on Problem-Based Learning (PBL), the Adventure Learning and Service-Learning would provide a glimpse to the richness of student learning experience at RP.

Participants will also be invited on a tour around campus, including the experiential learning facilities – the Adventure Learning Centre and the Tan Ean Kiam Service-Learning Resource Centre, which would provide a taste of the Continuing Education and Training programmes available.

Science Centre Singapore

The Science Centre is dedicated to the promotion of science and technology among students and the public. As a leading Science Centre in the region, it has twelve exhibition galleries with more than 1,000 interactive exhibits. It also conducts a series of science enrichment programmes to complement science teaching and learning in schools.

The learning journey would show the varied ways students in Singapore can learn science in out-of-school settings. The programme involves a short presentation of its programmes with Q&A, a tour of lab facilities, time to view the exhibitions and the opportunity to watch at least one science show.

Singapore Sports School - Pursuing Excellence in both Studies and Sports

Participants will learn how student athletes have benefited from the rigorous academic programme and flexible academic setting, which enables them to balance their academic pursuits with their demanding sports schedule.

At the secondary level, the academic programme is anchored upon MOE's educational objectives. The post-secondary level looks at multiple academic pathways leading to broad-based, rigorous and widely accepted pre-tertiary qualifications that are available to offer them different options in academic pacing and allow for a closer matching of their sports training and development programmes. This LJ will enable participants to see how a balance is struck between sports and education.

Participants will learn about its business excellence framework and how it engages employees in innovation and value creation. It will showcase its railway electronics solutions, interactive digital media and solutions developed for future schools.

The Making of the World’s First Night Safari
Singapore Zoo

In the late 1980s, a group of visionaries dreamt of a wildlife attraction that was to be the world's first and one that offered visitors a memorable wildlife experience second to none. After six years of planning, Night Safari opened its gates on 24 May 1994 to visitors. This LJ provides you with insight into the making of Night Safari and inspires you with the team's drive to bring the attraction to fruition, against all odds.

This unique visit will include a talk, a behind-the-scenes look at the animal hospital from 4-6 pm, and an extended optional Night Safari tour thereafter.
