Teachers in Our Schools: A Multi-Tier Generation |
A multi-tier generation of teachers teaches Gen Z students in our schools today. This phenomenon poses an interesting challenge for our teachers today, especially since we are usually inclined to teach how we were taught in schools ourselves. How do teachers with different years of experiences work to engage our students effectively in the classroom? How can the more senior teachers mentor the younger teachers who have different experiences and ideals effectively? |

HEAD and HEART |
How do we develop 21st century competencies in our students to enable them to take advantage of opportunities in a globalised world? The goal of education is to prepare our students to be work ready, world ready while at the same time to be emotionally ready for adulthood. As societal norms evolve, we need to continue to anchor our students in strong values while ensuring that they are adequately equipped with relevant knowledge and 21st Century competencies. |

One Size Does Not Fit All! |
The students we teach today are digital natives to whom effective engagement is the key. Engaging and inspiring our students to learn will be a challenge for teachers if pedagogical content knowledge and the repertoire of teaching skills are limited. How can teachers exploit the diverse pedagogies to engage our students and at the same time ensure that learning takes place? How can we assess their learning beyond pen and paper methods? How do we enable our students to take greater responsibility for their own learning and be co-creators of knowledge? |
